The French Macaron is never to be confused with the American macaroon coconut cookie. This exquisite pastry is a sweet meringue-based confectionery made with egg whites, icing sugar, granulated sugar, almond powder or ground almond and food coloring. The macaron is commonly filled with ganache, buttercream or jam which is sandwiched between two cookies. Macarons, which come in a wide variety of flavors, easily melt in your mouth!
A macaron is technically a French petit four, which is a bite-size, elegant and savory cake. So, it is only appropriate that the inspiration for the name of our bakery came from France. Noticing a beautiful tree display at a fancy French bakery, The Dessert Tree was born.
There has been much debate about the origin of the macaron. Some have traced its French debut back to the arrival of Catherine de’ Medici’s Italian pastry chefs whom she brought with her in 1533 upon marrying Henry II of France.
